Agenda

This event is an opportunity to experience Agendashift's Discovery and Exploration activities in the form of a highly immersive online workshop. It is for coaches, consultants, and managers wishing to develop their coaching and leadership skills in the areas of enquiry, facilitation, and change leadership.

This workshop is divided to a four 2-hours sessions:

1+2. Learning the language of outcomes-

The first two sessions of this workshop – 2 hours each (back to back) – will give you plenty of opportunity to practice the language of outcomes – conversations that explore needs and identify key outcomes – essential whenever and wherever you wish to encourage collaboration, self-organisation, and innovation. You will get practical hands-on experience with some exciting open source tools, including our kickoff exercise Celebration-5W and our signature coaching game, the Clean Language-inspired 15-minute FOTO. Additionally, the Agendashift delivery assessment is set as prework for all participants a week or so prior to the workshop.

3. Strategic Mapping with Outcomes -

This 2-hour hands-on session covers mapping and other visualization techniques employed in our longer workshops. In Agendashift, Mapping is the bridge between Agendashift’s two generative patterns:1. Organizing outcomes generated by occurrences of the Ideal, Obstacles, Outcomes (IdOO) pattern and as a medium for the ongoing work of the Discovery and Exploration activities.2. To help manage the process of Just-in-time Strategy Deployment, reflecting priorities and other thinking as it evolves.

No quadrants or clusters will be (ab)used in this workshop!Exercises:

Setup:

• Challenge Mapping, bootstrapping the outcomes we'll use in later exercises
• Plan on a Page, the simple visualization used in Discovery

Then the “string” of exercises defined for the Agendashift transformation strategy workshops’ Mapping activity, each exercise both valuable in its own right and making its successor easier:

• The Cynefin Four Points Contextualization exercise (Snowden), introduced under the pseudonym Option Approach Mapping.
• Option Relationship Mapping (Keogh/Scotland, Wardley), previously known as Reverse Wardley Mapping.
• Pathway Mapping (User Story Mapping meets the Reverse STATIK model).

4. Stories, Hypotheses, and A3-

This 2-hour hands-on session is based on the Elaboration session of the Core and Deep Dive workshops with additional material from the Impact! and Wholehearted:OKR workshops.Topics and exercises:

• Stories, authentic situations of need, and hypotheses “hard” and “soft”.
• Just-in-time option selection.
• Generating and selecting solution ideas.
• Framing solution ideas as hypotheses.
• Developing solution ideas with the The Agendashift Experiment A3 template.
• Portfolios of experiments.

Your facilitator will be Agendashift founder Mike Burrows. Mike is the author of the Lean-Agile classic Kanban from the Inside (2014) and Agendashift: Outcome-oriented change and continuous transformation (2018); his third book Right to Left: the digital leader’s guide to Lean and Agile was published last summer and the audiobook edition is due very soon. Outside of Agendashift, he is known for Kanban’s values model, the Featureban and Changeban games, and as a strong advocate for participatory and outcome-oriented approaches to change, transformation, and strategy. Prior to his consulting career, Mike was global development manager and Executive Director at a top tier investment bank, CTO for an energy risk management startup, and interim delivery manager for two of the UK government’s digital exemplars.
