Attention music lovers! ExtraExtra is bringing an all-star lineup of New Orleans musicians & entertainers through communities across the US for a summer tour full of funk, soul, and joyful noise. The group provides high-flying groove music with a message, and is a vehicle for these heavy-hitting New Orleans artists to share their stories and experiences as professional musicians, world travelers, and community organizers. You’ll hear original funk jams, irreverent protest songs, and breakup salves - all right next to your favorite traditional New Orleans numbers.
Helmed by songwriters Adam Lessnau (bass, trombone, vocals) and Anuraag Pendyal (piano, keys, vocals), ExtraExtra features musicians who are mainstays of local New Orleans roots music communities: Lessnau works as a member of the New Orleans brass band scene, performing regularly with groups such as the Jackson Square Jazz Orchestra, James Andrews and the Crescent City All Stars, the Youngfellaz Brass Band, Efrem Towns (of Dirty Dozen Brass Band fame), and recently, with Kirk Joseph’s Backyard Groove. Pendyal plays keys with Cyril Neville (The Meters, The Neville Brothers), as well as Omari Neville & The Fuel, and holds down the piano seat for long-tenured New Orleans trumpeter Merv Campbell with Kid Merv and All That Jazz. This tour joins them with longtime collaborators Felipe K.rrera (guitar) and Moses Eder (drums) who are bonafide performers and creators in their own right.
This heavy 2½ month summer tour is in support of ExtraExtra’s first studio release, Unauthorized Gentrification Party. The album, and their traveling show this summer, is a platform which opens up conversations about all things radical - life as working musicians, the intensity of working class life in New Orleans, reports from the road, and life as 90’s kids in a changing world.
