Exploring the Brontës

In this course, we will read together and examine the writings of the Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily, and Anne, beginning with a look at their life and legacy. We will read and examine all of their novels, concluding with Wuthering Heights.

The course will run for two hours every Saturday, beginning at 3pm EST and concluding at 5pm EST.

Each session will include a 1-hour lecture and a 1-hour discussion session, during which participants can raise questions and present their perspective on the texts that we are reading.

Introduction: The Brontë Legacy

Jane Eyre (1847)

Shirley (1849)

Villette (1853)

The Professor (1857)

Agnes Grey (1847)

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848)

Wuthering Heights (1847)


Participants should aim to have read the texts prior to the class meetings.


There will also be optional critical readings provided.
