Exploring STEM Careers

To be successful in the 21st century workforce, our youth must develop and maintain interest and proficiencies in STEM skills, develop an adaptable mindset, and strive to be life-long learners. For over 100 years, Scouting has utilized a hands-on, experiential and project-based approach to develops skills and competencies needed to be successful adults. Leveraging key business, community, and college partnerships, our STEM Exploring programs engage youth in meaningful activities to increase their awareness of opportunities in STEM fields, as well as the education and training pathways available to make them successful. In Traverse City, a unique opportunity exists to showcase an innovative program partnership between the Michigan Crossroads Council, the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce, Northwestern Michigan College and Atlas Space Operations as an effective platform for successful futures for our youth in the advanced manufacturing, information technology, maritime science, skilled trades, aviation and aerospace industries.

Michigan Crossroads Council - Exploring Division

This is a 9 month program for young men and women, ages 14-20 interested in STEM career exploration. Meetings will be held one or two Saturday's a month with most sessions occuring from 12pm-4pm. First Meeting will be held on Saturday September 15 @ 12pm, there will be an open house begining at 11am before the first session.  This year's program offerings include; Rockets, Medical Analytical Systems, Pharmacy Technology, Coding & Programming, Automotive Technology-electric & autonomous vehicles, Medical Imaging & Biomedical Technology, Medical Simulation lab, Technology in Agriculture, Chemistry & Water Quality and Water Exploration. 
This year's program is limited to the first 50 youth who register to participate.  A waiting list will also be available should additional spots become available.  The cost to participate is $34 for the entire program year, payment will be due at the first session.
