Overview

Join us for a painting workshop at Pine Meadow Ranch with 2026 PMRCAA Resident Artist Chidinma Dureke.

Date: June 16, 2026

Time: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture

This workshop explores the intersection of local landscape with themes of identity, borders, and belonging, demonstrating how place-based materials carry meaning and memory within artwork.

Participants begin by creating observational light and color studies of the ranch environment through an experimental and collaborative process. Focusing on the distinctive qualities of Oregon’s light, they examine how time of day and atmospheric conditions shape our perception of place.

Using mixed media collage techniques, participants work with paper, fiber, acrylic paint, and organic materials gathered from the land, such as soil, plant matter, and agricultural textures, alongside traditional art supplies. The workshop also includes plein-air sketching and dedicated time for group reflection.

Inspired by Dureke’s “Afropolitan Spaces” projects, these light studies engage themes of belonging, adaptation, identity, and resilience, resonating across diverse perspectives.

Through collaborative art-making, participants create visual and conceptual connections between light, land, and community.

For ages 16 and older. Those under age 16 may attend accompanied by an adult.
