Exploring Evanston Challenges & Possibilities

As one of Evanston’s leading charitable and service organizations, the Rotary Club of Evanston has provided countless hours of volunteer service and significant monetary support for a variety of local causes since it was founded in 1920.For more nearly 100 years, the club has divided its service to the community between hands-on, volunteer projects, and raising funds to help organizations and causes. It has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for not-for-profit organizations, helping Evanston cope with pressing issues ranging from illiteracy to domestic violence to homelessness and poverty.The club’s philosophy is to provide general assistance wherever it is needed – thus it has provided volunteers for everything from building homes for low-income families to cleaning up Evanston’s beaches to delivering hot meals to the needy.Over its history, the club has placed a strong emphasis on helping Evanston’s youth. Projects range from youth mentoring to after-school reading programs and scholarships. In recent years, it has also launched a local anti-violence initiative.

Exploring Evanston Challenges &amp; Possibilities A panel discussion on education gaps, hunger and aging

The Rotary Club of Evanston is considering possibilities for focusing its community service and funding efforts in Evanston. Three potential areas are education gaps, hunger and aging. This May 8 panel discussion, to be held at 6-7:30 pm in the auditorium at One Rotary Center, 1560 Sherman Ave., will bring together community leaders and members of the broader community for exploration of related challenges and possibilities.
Dr. Gilo Logan of Logan Consulting Services will serve as the moderator for the panel discussion; Candance Chow, District 65 School Board Member, will speak about the education opportunity gap; Ike Ogbo, Interim Director for City of Evanston Interim Health and Human Services, will speak about food security; and Audrey Thompson, the City of Evanston Long-term Care Ombudsman will speak about aging in Evanston.
