On June 15 th we will host a bonsai class at the Fodor Farm Pavilion.
This class is a hands-on workshop in. which we will create a new tropical bonsai tree.
Saeko Oshiro and Susan Simmons will lead the class through all the steps of creation.
We will be working with a tropical flowering woody ornamental :
-Sleeping Hibiscus - MALAVISCUS
Saeko is from Okinawa originally where her father and grandfather introduced her to
the art of bonsai. Saeko was the bonsai artist and curator at the Shanti Bithi Bonsai
Nursery for over 25 years. Saeko’s skills in bonsai and Japanese gardening are notable
and second to none in our area.
Susan started her bonsai journey studying with Yuji Yoshimura beginning in 1985.
From 2007 to 2013 Susan was Assistant Bonsai Artist working with Saeko at Shanti
Bithi Nursery. Currently she works on her own collection of bonsai trees.
