We can't wait to see you there!

The Art League of New Britain proudly announces its May-June exhibition, "From Ordinary to Extraordinary: Our Yearning for Second Chances." As the second oldest art league in the United States, the league itself embodies a spirit of resilience and reinvention, making it the perfect venue for an art show exploring themes of rebirth and renewal.

Featuring the works of award-winning mixed media artists Paul Baylock and Claudio DaNapoli, this exhibition delves into the concept of second chances, both in art and in life. Not coincidentally, art is a second career for both artists.

Baylock's art draws inspiration from vintage publications and local New Britain iconography, transforming them into vibrant acrylic and vinyl paintings that evoke a sense of nostalgia and memory. Through his layered compositions, Baylock offers forgotten images a chance to reclaim their former glory, and an appreciation for that which came before – all enveloped in a fresh and modern pop-art vibe.

Similarly, finding traditional photography insufficient to tell the stories he envisioned, DaNapoli’s artistic journey led him to experiment with industrial materials and construction scraps. By repurposing these objects into frames for his photographs, DaNapoli discovered a symbiotic relationship between the frame and the image, where each enhances the other. His work reflects the concept of "second chances," as he breathes new life into discarded materials, giving them an opportunity to shine once again.

Join us for the opening reception of "From Ordinary to Extraordinary: Our Yearning for Second Chances" on Friday, May 10 from 6pm to 8pm at the Art League of New Britain, located at 30 Cedar Street in New Britain, CT. Experience the dialogue sparked by these artists' work and immerse yourself in a world of renewal and possibility. Refreshments will be served. This event is free of charge. The show runs from May 10 – June 2, 2024.
