Caltech Student-Faculty Programs

This lunch-time program is designed to help undergrads learn more about the research happening at the Jet Propulsion Lab and connect them with possible SURF mentors for next summer.
A boxed lunch will be provided for those who register.
Speaker Information:
Amir Rahmani is a robotics systems engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. His experience include designing coordination and control frameworks for formation flying spacecraft, and teams of unmanned ground, surface, and aerial vehicles. Amir was an assistant professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Miami. He received his PhD from University of Washington and held a postdoctoral appointment at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Ivria Doloboff’s research background is in developing instrumentation for planetary exploration and advancing the state of knowledge in detection and definition of biosignatures. Ivria's work focuses on testing and developing methods for detection of life and biosignatures on other planets. This includes developing structured methodologies and techniques for using deep UV laser-based spectroscopic instruments to perform fine-scale detection of minerals and organic molecules. Laboratory research includes simulating far-from-equilibrium chemical/geochemical systems relevant to the emergence of life on wet rocky worlds. These efforts involve work in various analytical techniques, including characterization of geochemistry and geomorphology of terrestrial, Lunar, comet, and Mars simulants using Environmental Scanning Electron microscopy (ESEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy (EDS).
Eric Huff was raised in Bullhead City, Arizona, and followed an early passion for physics to college in Tucson and a PhD in Berkeley. He's done original work on a variety of topics, ranging from observational cosmology to tidal modeling of surface features on Jovian moons.  He is currently a scientist in JPL’s Origin of the Universe group and his research interests include: Dark energy and cosmic acceleration, Gravitational lensing, the large-scale structure of the universe, Precision cosmology, Principled statistical inference.
