Experiments in Ecography
Join this ASA People Fest Edinburgh event (please book to help us assess numbers). Meet at Wardie Bay. All are welcome.
Come and try combining ecology and ethnography at Edinburgh's coast!
Together we’ll search the beach for oyster shells, following an established citizen science methodology. This helps to map historic oyster beds and guides decisions about good places to restore native species.
During the event you’re invited to pay attention to everything about the coast that the survey does not capture: impressions, conversations, vibrant activity, senses. This is an experiment in what has recently been called 'Ecography', combining ethnographic and ecological research methods.
Sharing our reflections, we will discuss the place of the personal in the ecological, and how anthropology can help think about restorative futures.
