CHOP SHOP’s mission is to offer insight on contemporary dance and its creative process, in order to forge deeper connections between artists and audiences through presentation, education, dialogue, and experience. The festival is committed to promoting work that is accessible to a diverse audience, comprising both new and experienced dance viewers, and providing free, fun, and open to all ages and abilities dance classes through our innovative Experience Dance Program.Since its founding in 2008, CHOP SHOP has shared and championed the work of410+ individual artists from 76 dance companies, welcomedover 1,000Experience Dance Programparticipantsto free and open to all ages and abilities dance classes, and invited numerous dance students to engage directly with professional artists inmore than 70 master classes.CHOP SHOP:  Bodies of Work/StoneDance Productions is powered by Shunpike. Shunpike is the 501c3 non-profit organization that empowers artists through equitable access to vital expertise, opportunities and business services.

Join CHOP SHOP: Bodies of Work for a free, fun, and interactive talk exploring the creative processes behind contemporary dance films! Offered in partnership with Bellevue Arts Museum, Bellevue College, and The City of Bellevue Parks and Community Services Department, the free Experience Dance Program accompanies the CHOP SHOP: Bodies of Work Contemporary Dance Festival, held online in January and February 2021.Reading Dance is your chance to engage directly with festival artists as they discuss the craft of choreography. Join dancers and choreographers as they demystify and reveal the creative process behind making contemporary dance films. Discover the type of movement language contemporary dance uses, hear how choreographers and videographers collaborate, learn different ways that dances are formed, and ask questions of the artists themselves. FAQsHow do I join the class?Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are offering Intro to Modern Dance - and all our festival programming - online. Once you've registered for the class of your choice, you'll receive a confirmation email that includes a link to join the class via Zoom. Don't worry: we'll also send you a reminder email with the link shortly before the class begins!Do I need to reserve a ticket for each member of my household?No - since we're holding classes online this year, you can just reserve a single ticket for your entire household.Is there an admission charge or fee to participate in Reading Dance?No - Reading Dance is offered completely free of charge!Are there minimum age requirements for Reading Dance?Reading Dance is great for all over the age of 8, but we have had younger participants in the past.What other programming do you offer?In 2021, CHOP SHOP Contemporary Dance Festival offers a fully online program of events, including no experience necessary dance classes, dance films, master classes for experienced dancers, artist talks, and more.
