Expedition on the James 2024

The mission of the Jeep Expeditionary Club Foundation is to honor, support and assist America's active, veteran, and retired armed forces and first responders and support the preservation and sustainability of outdoor recreational areas for their use.

Part of the proceeds from the Expedition on the James will go to The Friends of James River State Park who actively participate in the mission of James River State Park. That mission is to conserve the natural, cultural, scenic, and recreational resources of the park, as well as to provide a variety of recreational and educational opportunities and to promote environmental stewardship.

Located in western Buckingham County, on the banks of the Middle James River, James River State Park is a fairly recent addition to the family of Virginia State Parks. Opened in 1999, the park encompasses 1,561 acres of rolling woodlands with over three miles of river frontage and more than 20 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Campsites and cabins are available year-round and the river is incredibly popular for canoeing, kayaking and tubing during the warm summer months.

As the park continues to be developed, new opportunities will arise to support the park in a variety of ways. One of those ways is through the Friends group. Friends groups are non-profit organizations that are formed to support a local park through volunteerism, advocacy and fundraising efforts. Anyone interested in becoming involved with Friends of James River State Park, please contact the Friends and ask for information on joining, annual membership, dues or donations.
