Expanded Cinema/Film Installation Workshop
Get ready to dive into the world of cinema and film installations with LBCMA
In this workshop, we will make changes to the space and context in which film is scene, re-contextualizing found footage (or otherwise!) as live, boundary-less performance art
Expanded Cinema is an immersive approach to filmmaking that breaks movies out of the traditional theater setting–Instead of just sitting and watching a flat screen, we treat film as a live performance, a physical installation, or an interactive experience.
In this introductory workshop, you’ll learn that cinema isn’t just about "the movie"—it’s about the space, the light, and the audience.
What You’ll Discover:
- Beyond the Rectangle: How to project images on non-traditional surfaces and shapes.
- Multi-Projection: Playing with multiple projectors at once to create a "surround-sight" experience.
- Live Manipulation: Using physical materials (like colored gels or lenses) to change a film while it’s playing.
- The Art of Atmosphere: How to turn a room into a living, breathing piece of art.
Who is this for?
This workshop is perfect for curious beginners, DIY artists, and anyone who loves movies but wonders, "What else could this be?" No technical background or fancy gear is required—just an open mind and a love for light.
