1 in 5 undergraduate students in the United States are parents.
Student parents face both systemic and personal barriers on their path to earning a postsecondary credential. The path to earning a credential is not only inspiring to student parents’ families, but tells a powerful story about the ways in which postsecondary education leaders, policymakers and community partners can support this growing number of learners.
The private screening will be followed by a discussion about the realities facing student parents featuring a student parent, the film producer, and higher education and policy leaders.
About Raising Up
Raising Up is a five-part docuseries investigating the barriers student parents face when pursuing higher education and the innovative leaders creating generational impact. The series follows four student parents on their post-secondary journey with each film diving more deeply into the issues the student encounter with childcare, affordable housing, mental health, and workforce pathways.
Grounded in hope and real world solutions to systemic educational obstacles, Raising Up is a celebration of the 1 in 5 students parenting on campus and a call to recognize and support this previously disregarded population as they seek to build a better future for themselves and generations to come.
