EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE - Songs of Revolution and RedemptionVOX POPULI performs songs by Nina Simone, Johnny Cash and Randy Newman in new arrangements by Harvey Brough, with the Orchestra of the Swan and soloists Dan Copeland, Emily Dankworth and Kate Brook.

Join Vox Populi as they perform a diverse selection of great songs originally sung by artists such as Nina Simone, Johnny Cash and Randy Newman.Mississippi Goddam, Don't let me be Misunderstood, Redemption Day, Strange Fruit are reworked by Harvey Brough for soloists, choir and orchestr for the first half of the concert.The second half features a career overview of Randy Newman's songs.Unlike most singer songwriters who wear their hearts prominently on their sleeves, Randy Newman often writes in character - his songs feature a rogue’s gallery of dodgy types, ordinary joes, sleaze-balls,, giving many of his songs a determinedly edgy atmosphere.His songs can be acerbic but also hysterically funny - You’re Dead is an ode to a washed out rock star who still insists on treading the boards, and The World Isn't Fair is a debunking of socialism, addressed to Karl Marx. There are also tender and affecting songs - Louisiana 1927, and I Miss You (an exquisite song, with the slight sting in its tail being that he wrote it for his first wife, while with his second). We also perform some of his well known songs from fIlms, including Toy Story - the gorgeous When She Loved Me and You Got a Friend in Me.This is a fabulous selection of Randy Newman’s oeuvre, an array of songs which range from exquisitely touching to hilariously offensive (often at his own expense) with all shades in between.Licensed Bar - by Eliza Jade Events
