Everybody’s Art — Free Community Art Making Workshops
As a nod to Robert Earl Paige’s community art practice and our exhibition, The United Colors of Robert Earl Paige, the Art Center is hosting all ages art making workshops on the South Side and across Chicago facilitated by Community Engagement Fellow, Keny De La Peña.
In these free workshops, participants will learn about the history and artistic practice of artist, Robert Earl Paige, and learn how to use everyday materials to create artwork inspired by his practice.
Join us at First Presbyterian Church of Chicago for a three-part series of workshops!
Sample workshops include:
Kool Weaves
Learn how to create colorful weavings using cardboard looms. You'll be working with vibrant yarn dyed using the playful hues of Kool-aid, adding a burst of color to your creations. Learning this basic weaving technique will allow you to make your own wall art, tapestries, and more!
School Glue Batik
A variation on the original technique, that uses beeswax, participants will learn to create designs on fabric using a resist dye method! With the help of some school glue we will recreate this technique.
Found Object Printmaking
Harnessing the power of household goods and recyclables, participants will learn printmaking methods. Stamp on your personal signature using cardboard, bottles, bubble wrap and design your own fabric!
