About this event
LOVE MAKES US BRAVE | A Story of an APU Difference Maker
APU Interprofessional Event | A nurse’s experience within the global community can inform healing and helping professions within their own disciplines.
Brave Love began with a simple question ~What does it look like to love in this situation?
Juli Boit's (BSN '01) life has been guided by a call to ease suffering. This call took place 20 years ago with a courageous & compassionate goal the size of a mustard seed. Her BRAVE LOVE led Juli to leave her home in California to help those suffering from AIDS in Kenya.
Together with friends and family, Living Room International was born. Living Room International is a hospice and palliative care mission in Western Kenya with two in-patient facilities, a funeral home, and home-based care programs. Living Room offers holistic care to men, women, and children suffering from life-threatening illnesses, including pain and symptom management, nutrition, physical therapy, psychological support, and spiritual support.
Juli is traveling from Kenya for an in-person interview that will chronicle stories from Kenya and her own personal suffering when death knocked on the doorstep of her children.
You will…
Learn that small steps done with love can lead to miracles.
Learn about the transforming work of love.
Be moved by the healing power of community.
Be reminded of the cost and reward of love.

Juli's latest memoir, Brave Love: A Nurses' Journey of Courage and Compassion in a Kenyan Hospice is available November 2023.
“Within the pages of Brave Love, a profound revelation unfolds: love is an ever-evolving journey. Boit's candid prose doesn't just invite us; it compels us to embrace discomfort, reimagine our perspectives, and resoundingly answer love's transformative call with unswerving compassion. In a world fractured by divisions, Boit's memoir emerges as an unwavering testament, extending an invitation to harness the invincible, life-changing force of Brave Love."
