Description of ICP-LPM Course

The ICAgile Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) class is a comprehensive training module designed to give participants a profound understanding of the pivotal role that Lean Portfolio Management plays in an Agile enterprise environment. At the heart of this course is an exploration of the “What” and “Why” of Lean Portfolio Management for Business Agility. Participants will be introduced to the very definition of LPM, understanding the crucial need for the shift to LPM to achieve genuine Business Agility, and the guiding principles that underpin it.

As the course progresses, attendees will delve into the art of aligning execution with strategy. Central to this is how LPM actively champions an adaptive strategy. Furthermore, participants will grasp the nuances of strategy formulation tailored for complex adaptive organizations, ensuring that strategies devised are both resilient and flexible.

A key facet of the LPM class is its emphasis on funding and budgeting. The course elucidates the benefits of shorter funding cycles, advocating for rapid adaptation in today’s volatile business landscape. Additionally, participants are taught the significance of being responsible stewards of both financial funds and other essential organizational resources.

Governance remains at the core of LPM, and this training module does not shy away from its importance. Attendees will gain insight into effective portfolio governance, adeptly managing associated risks, conflicts, and variances. The course also underscores the criticality of LPM metrics and measurements, ensuring that portfolio management remains a data-driven endeavor.

As participants navigate through the course, they’ll be introduced to the intricate relationship between organization design and portfolio management. This segment enlightens attendees about the paradigm shift from traditional project-based structures to product-centric ones. Furthermore, the course delineates where LPM integrates seamlessly with other organizational practices, ensuring holistic business agility.

The course also explores various portfolio types, with a particular focus on the Portfolio Kanban, celebrated for its transparency and communication prowess. Attendees will understand the diverse types of portfolios crucial for business agility and be made aware of portfolio anti-patterns to avoid.

A standout feature of the LPM class is its emphasis on enabling cross-team visibility. Here, the power of collaboration events is unleashed, fostering visibility across the portfolio and elucidating the roadmap of portfolio management. As the course reaches its advanced stages, attendees grapple with concepts of capacity and demand. They’re taught the art of adeptly managing portfolio intake, the significance of limiting work in progress (WIP), and planning in sync with available capacity.

The course concludes with a deep dive into continuous planning and delivering. Participants will understand the essence of work prioritization, immerse themselves in the fundamentals of portfolio planning, and recognize the importance of a learning mindset, continuously adapting to the ever-evolving business ecosystem. With its rich content and holistic approach, the ICAgile LPM class is a must for those aiming to master the intricacies of Lean Portfolio Management in the Agile world.
