About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

The volunteer-led Vegetable Project’s seventh annual Evening in the Garden will be at Myers Middle School. Everyone is welcome to see what is growing, to learn about our work with kids in Albany schools, to learn about growing plants, to enjoy the sounds of student musicians and to sample tastes from local restaurants and other food businesses. Established in 2009, the Vegetable Project builds teaching and learning around doing and touching and tasting and experiencing with the generous support of our friends in the community.

The food will be great, with tasting opportunities offered (so far, and more to come) by Allie B's Cozy Kitchen, the Copper Crow, Honest Weight Food Co-op, Nicole's Restaurant and the Albany High School/Abrookin career and technical education culinary program.

Please come and meet featured guest Richard Daley.

Seeking to support building resilient and sustainable communities with his Sunray Sustainability, Rich Daley teaches both kids and adults at schools and in community settings. An Albany schools dad and Vegetable Project volunteer, he has written for Permaculture Design Magazine, Lion’s Roar Magazine and recently in the Honest Weight Food Co-op’s Coop Scoop about “Why We Need Permaculture Ethics.”

The Albany High School Jazz Band, which rocked the house at the 2023 Evening in the Garden, will be back this year. Just another great reason to join this year's festivities.

Please enjoy an Evening in the Garden at Myers Middle School on Tuesday, May 7, with the folks who bring hundreds of Albany students outdoors each year because it makes a difference when sit-in-a-chair-behind-a-desk-learning gets stale.

There won’t be another party like this one until the spring of 2025 – at New Scotland Elementary School.

See what’s growing in the garden. Get the lowdown on what we mean when we talk about building teaching and learning around doing and touching and tasting and experiencing. Sample offerings from some of the area's best places to eat. Boogie to the fabulous sounds of the Albany High School (New York) Jazz Ensemble. Meet the volunteers who are devoted to Albany kids with the greatest needs. Learn how you can participate and contribute.

And if you know about all this already, please consider showing your support for what we do by becoming a member of the event's honorary committee!
