About this event

Join local storytellers, poets, and writers for a dreamy evening all about Estuaries & Edges. Not only that, but this is one of our hush-hush events! The location is so stunning, so special, that we can’t tell you about it at this time, we want to surprise you. What we can tell you, is that the event will take place close to Jenner, and that the exact location and directions will be emailed to you the night prior. But, only to those who have registered for the event here!

Our stellar lineup: Nica Celly, Mahea Campbell, Evan Wiig, Lisa Gottreich, and Erika Lutz!

Folks should plan to arrive by 6pm, the reading will take place at 6:30pm, and everyone should leave the area by sundown. For folks with canoes, paddle boards, and kayaks, this event will be accessible by water and registration is not required.

Registration is per car.

As with all our events, we like to keep them small and intimate. Each reading is a carefully curated experience of story, land, and being in the Here & Now with community.

We love folks who carpool. We are limiting this event to 15 cars, so please consider bringing people with you. Or, paddle in! We recommend attending with a buddy or two. Adult content, no kids under 12, and please be aware: adult content.

About the venue:

Participants must be ok with uneven ground. There will be some parking that you can pay a day fee for, let’s reserve these spots for folks who need easy access. For others, you’ll park down the road and enjoy a lovely twenty-minute walk on relatively flat ground. (This will become crystal clear when directions and the location and shared the night before). It is possible to drop folks off at the event, go park, and walk in.

What to bring:

Flowers for the readers! If you want to sit in a chair, bring the chair. If you want to sit on the ground, bring a blanket. Please bring water, anything you want to eat, and a flashlight! That said, folks should plan on leaving by sundown.

Bathrooms:

There are bushes to pee behind and one accessible bathroom about a 7-minute walk from the final location.

About the reading:

Sunset, water, maybe an otter, probably a cow in the distance, great blue herons flying home to their rookeries. Storytellers exploring Estuaries & Edges; how to be with them, how to push through them, mouths of rivers, mouths of the human experience. We can’t wait to see you there, where the saltwater and freshwater mingle.

Books & Barns was born from a desire to cultivate a literary community that showcases rural writers (or rural leaning writers) reading in rural spaces for a community of folks who are hungry for writing that pushes past the pastoral and apple pie aesthetic (although we are fond of apples, pie, sheep, and the like). We are volunteer run and committed to experiencing community in the Here & Now. Our gatherings are offered at no-cost because we are just community hanging out and telling stories, like it should be.
