ErieHack Toledo Hackathon

Erie Hack Water Data and Engineering Hackathonis a tech-driven international water innovation competition and accelerator program that will bring together coders, developers, engineers, data experts, and water professionals to generate creative solutions to Lake Erie’s biggest challenges. The competition, which will award more than $100,000 in cash and accelerator services to up to four winning teams and one high school team, focuses on creating publicly accessible mobile apps, open data and new technology and solutions to elevate the value of clean water and leverage its potential to drive the economic vitality of the Great Lakes region [aka “The Blue Economy"].

We have a star-studded lineup of judges including Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson; Lucas County Commissioner Carol Contrada; Dr. Chris Winslow, Director of the Ohio Sea Grant College Program at the Ohio State University; Jane Ruvolo, Congressional Assistant to Rep. Marcy Kaptur; Dr. Daryl Dwyer, Director of Environmental Remediation and Restoration Lab at the University of Toledo; Jason Owens, Chief Engineer at Resonance Group; and Stuart Bertsch, co-founder of Tech Toledo.

ErieHack Water Data and Engineering Hackathon is a tech-driven water innovation competition and accelerator program that will bring together coders, developers, engineers, data experts, water professionals and every day concerned citizens to generate creative solutions to Lake Erie's biggest challenges. The ErieHack competition runs from February to May, with regional competitions happening in Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland and Buffalo.
During the Toledo Hack-A-Thon participants will form teams of up to five people to tackle <A HREF="http://eriehack.io/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Erie-Hack-Challenge-Statements.pdf" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">the competition challenges</A>. The teams will then have 48 hours to develop their project as much as possible and present their work on Sunday the 26th. The best teams as determined by a panel of judges will move on to a semi-final in Detroit in April and the final summit in Cleveland in May. There's $100,000 in prizes up for grabs!
The event will kick off on Friday the 24th at 6 pm with speakers talking about major challenges with Lake Erie and then a presentation of project ideas people have and the formation of teams. Work will contiue through the weekend until early evening on Sunday. The facility will be open and accessible for all 48 hours, although participants will not be required to stay the whole time. All food and drink will be provided by the organizing team. Parking is free.
You are welcome to find some friends or colleagues to create a team or just come to the opening evening and find a project to hook up with. Hack-a-thons are a fun, exciting atmosphere that facilitates not only the growth of a project idea but also of the participants. It's a great place to develop new skills and meet new people.
