<h3>PLEASE NOTE: Package Sales for Equality Week 2020, the Power of the Vote, and Legalize Equality have ended. Individual Ticket sales for each of the other events will end the day before each event. This will allow us time to send out the Zoom registration information. Please select the August 29th Ticket Option for the individual events.</h3>On August 26, 1920, the United States ratified the 19th Amendment. After many decades of organizing, women finally won the right to vote. Voting rights was the first step for women toward equality in this country. To celebrate this momentous event and the centennial of the founding of the League of Women Voters, the League of Women Voters of Georgia is going virtual with EQUALITY WEEK 2020.Those who typically enjoy the energy of activists taking over a hotel ballroom celebrating the Power of the Vote or recognizing those who help make democracy work or just gathering together for networking can still experience that winning vibe online and live!You will have the option of purchasing a group package to attend all the events or purchasing individual events separately.  Each ticket enters the attendee into a door prize raffle. This award honors and showcases individuals and/or organizations that have, in the League tradition, helped to make Georgia a stronger, more vibrant and equitable state. <h2>AUGUST 23, 2020 - LEGALIZE EQUALITY </h2>Networking/Social Time: 3:30PM ET Film/Discussion: 4:00 - 5:30PM Legalize Equality discusses why we need the Equal Rights Amendment. This short film about the ERA makes the strong legal and economic argument for why completing ERA Ratification in the last one state is critical today, more than ever. Join us for a viewing of this film excerpted from the award-winning documentary, Equal Means Equal, with new footage and commentary. After the documentary we will have an open discussion about the ERA - where we stand today and going forward. Throughout the years, the League has continued its dual purposes of education and advocacy. The League has been called &quot;watchdogs in heels&quot; as we seek to hold government accountable. Sharon Blackwood, LWV-Gwinnett, will lead our Observer Corps Training. Learn how to observe and monitor our local government agencies. Training is open to members of the community as well as League of Women Voters members. Cost includes Observer Corps Button.Become a Voter Education Ambassador. Learn how to help friends and neighbors prepare to vote in 2020. Accurately answer questions about voter ID, voter registration, absentee voting, and the election process. Wells: A Passion for Justice documents the dramatic life and turbulent times of the pioneering African American journalist, activist, suffragist and anti-lynching crusader of the post-Reconstruction period. Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison reads selections from Wells' memoirs and other writings in this winner of more than 20 film festival awards. Join us for a viewing of the film followed by a discussion of Ida B. Wells' work and how it relates to today's issues surrounding discrimination and racial justice with author, Sarah Silkey. Silkey is the author of Black Woman Reformer: Ida B. Wells, Lynching, and Transatlantic Activism. Conversation will focus on how major themes in the life and legacy of Ida B. On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker – a New York Times Notable Book about her entrepreneurial great-great-grandmother – was the inspiration for Self-Made, the fictional four-part Netflix series starring Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer that premiered in March 2020. A'Lelia Bundles brings truth, humor, and warmth to the telling of her family’s stories. This will not be a presentation but a community conversation and discussion with our special guest, A'Lelia Bundles.
