In honor of International Human Rights Day, the Metro NY Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women in conjunction with the Student Development and Activites Office of Student Affairs, the Global Citizens Club, the Organizational Leadership Association, and the Peace Education Network at Teachers College Columbia University invite you to a special screening of the documentary EQUAL MEANS EQUAL. The screening will be proceeded by a discussion with Maria Noel Vaeza, Director of Programmes at UN Women.
EQUAL MEANS EQUAL offers an unflinching look at how women are treated in the United States today. Examining both real-life stories and precedent-setting legal cases, director Kamala Lopez uncovers how outdated and discriminatory attitudes inform and influence seemingly disparate issues, from workplace harassment to domestic violence, rape and sexual assault to thefoster care system, and the healthcare conglomerate to the judicial system. Along the way, she reveals the inadequacy of present laws that claim to protect women, ultimately presenting a compelling and persuasive argument for the urgency of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment.
This event is free and open to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated.
