Jackson Junge Gallery is excited to host their second mini exhibition, ENSEMBLE, featuring the work of in-house artist Brittany Bouyer. To celebrate Mother’s Day, Brittany’s newest collection of original paintings is a collaboration with her young daughter.
Motherhood has a way of reshaping identity. The moment a woman becomes a mother, she is often expected to surrender parts of herself—her time, her interests, her creative pursuits—all in service of nurturing another. In this transformation, pieces of who she once was can feel lost, replaced by the all-consuming needs of her child.
But what if motherhood didn’t have to mean disappearing? What if it could be an expansion instead?
Ensemble is a collection of mixed-media works exploring the intersection of motherhood and creativity—not as separate worlds, but as a shared experience. Instead of seeing artistic practice as something to be put on hold, this work embraces a different path: integrating motherhood into creativity, and creativity into motherhood.
Each piece in this exhibition is a collaboration between mother and child—an exercise in trust, play, and mutual discovery. Colors, brushstrokes, and composition emerge not from one singular vision, but from the give-and-take of shared creation. In working side by side, I am not only keeping my own creativity alive, but also nurturing confidence, autonomy, and artistic intuition in my daughter.
These works are an invitation—to mothers, caretakers, and creatives—to reclaim their passions by weaving them into the fabric of daily life. To let go of the idea that art must be solitary, uninterrupted, or perfect. To recognize that creativity, like motherhood, can be messy, spontaneous, joyful, and unexpected.
This exhibition is a testament to the idea that art doesn’t have to be sacrificed for motherhood—it can be transformed by it.
Join us Saturday, May 10th, 5-8pm for an opening reception which will coincide with Jackson Junge Gallery’s Mother’s Day Market from 12-8pm. Refreshments will be provided in the evening. Both events are free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on view May 6th through June 1st, 2025. ENSEMBLE is curated by Gallery Director Kaitlyn Miller and Assistant Gallery Director Kristen Arcus.
