About this event

Every Wednesday, talented callers teach delightful English country dances at the weekly English Country Dance sponsored by The Folklore Society of Greater Washington.

We dance to live top-notch musicians playing a wide variety of instruments.

The crowd is friendly. New dancers are always welcome and can get an informal lesson if they arrive around 7:30. You don't need to bring a partner or dress up.

We dance in the upstairs community room of the Glen Echo Town Hall which has a comfortable, springy wood floor.

No dance ability needed. The dances involve walking in patterns with occasional simple steps for punctuation.

Gentle connection is built into the dance; every few seconds someone smiles and extends a hand to you.

English country dance is both historic and a living tradition. Weekly dances programs often include dances from as early as 1651 as well as modern choreographies. English Country Dance was popular in Regency England, and you can see some of our dances in Jane Austen movies.

In May we have a Spring Ball! Some dress in formal or historic attire and other bell dancers simply dress in their usual comfortable clothes.

Some dancers are sensitive to fragrances and they are grateful when you skip the perfume and scented after-shave.

When

Wednesday from 8:00 - 10:30 p.m. We dance every Wednesday throughout the year, unless that day is a major holiday.

We highly recommend that you arrive early at 7:30 to receive an informal lesson.
