Engineer/Manager Pendulum Skill Share

Charity Majors

Are you an engineer, or a manager, or an engineer-formerly-a-manager, or vice versa?  All of the above?
Do you fear getting trapped in management when your skills get rusty?  Do you long for the chance to manage a team, but feel you've been consistently passed over?  Do you crave advancement and impact, and resent that only managers seem to get career progression?
How can you convince your org to stop treating management like a promotion instead of a career change?

We all grapple with these issues, especially as senior contributors.  This event presents a rare opportunity to process questions like these (and more!) with your wise and experienced peers, in small, focused and lightly facilitated discussion groups.  Remember, your career is your responsibility.

Now I come in and announce that we're flipping that world upside down.  Maybe you understand the rationale and benefits, but that doesn't make it any less stressful!  My as a leader and change agent is to get you from point A to B with as little stress as possible. The better I do my job, the more likely you are to come along on the journey. So let's talk about what doing my job well looks like.</LI>

The primary focus of this event will be the lightly-facilitated discussion groups, which will be organized around topics chosen by the attendees.  This is a skill share for you and your peers -- share your stories and tips for crafting a long, meaningful and powerful career as a senior engineer or in engineering leadership.

Practitioners only, senior to mid-level; no recruiting activity allowed during the main event.  There will be a board where you can post job openings, and recruiters are welcome to join us after the discussion groups have ended  You do not need to have a velocity ticket.
