Frequently asked questions
Enetewawek (እንተዋወቅ) is an Amharic word that loosely translates to "let's get to know each other." At ECMAA, it's also the name of our recurring singles mixers - events that provide a unique opportunity to connect with people over delicious food and light-hearted activities.
We attempt to tailor each mixer to a particular age demographic. For our 25+ mixer, our aim is to have individuals that fall within the 25-45 age range.
No, all are welcome! ECMAA is an inclusive organization that welcomes and encourages non-Ethiopians to attend our events and become members. We believe this diversity enriches everyone’s experience.
Our goal is to give every attendee the opportunity to interact with everyone in the room at least once. In designing the activities, we're cognizant of the vulnerability that comes with attending such an event and try very hard to foster a warm and welcoming environment.
No photos or videos of attendees will be taken by organizers at this event and we will communicate to attendees to adhere to this protocol. Additionally, contact details of attendees will not be shared with others.
This mixer will function as a fundraising event to assist with the sustainability of our ongoing programming and operations. While we are a volunteer-based organization, fundraising is required to cover the overhead and administrative costs of our events and year-long programming.
Mental health workshops, autism awareness events, college planning workshops, career networking events, history panels and film screenings, assistance and referral services for newly arrived immigrants and refugees, events celebrating Ethiopian culture and customs, and more.
There is no particular dress code; we encourage you to wear whatever makes you feel good! :).
