Hear the lovely words of Ben Fama, Manual Paul López, Kyra Simone, Valerie Werder, and Terry Nguyen at Fiction Bar on August 13th, 7pm as we celebrate the end of summer. Featuring the presses: FENCE, Wonder, Futuerpoem, and SarkaREADERS:Ben Fama is the author of the full-length poetry collections Fantasy (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2015) and Deathwish (Newest York, 2018). His debut novel If I Close My Eyes is forthcoming in fall 2023 from Sarka Press. He is the editor of Wonder and lives in New York City.Manuel Paul López's books include Nerve Curriculum (Futurepoem), These Days of Candy (Noemi Press, Akrilica Series), The Yearning Feed (University of Notre Dame Press), winner of the Earnest Sandeen Poetry Prize, and Death of Mexican and Other Poems (Bear Star Press). He also co-edited three anthologies, Reclaiming Our Stories: In the Time of Covid and Uprising (City Works Press), Reclaiming Our Stories 2 (City Works Press), and Reclaiming Our Stories (City Works Press), all three generated from a community-based writers' workshop of the same name that he's co-facilitated since 2016 in Southeast San Diego. He lives in San Diego and teaches at San Diego City College.Kyra Simone is a writer from Los Angeles, now based in Brooklyn. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in American Chordata,The Baffler, BOMB, Conjunctions, LEAN Magazine, and the Anthology of Best American Experimental Writing, among other journals. Winner of the 2022 ILS/Fence Magazine Fiction Contest, she is a member of the publishing collective Ugly Duckling Presse and her debut collection, Palace of Rubble was published by Tenement Press last fall.Valerie Werder is a fiction writer, recovering art worker, and doctoral candidate in film and visual studies at Harvard University. Her writing has been published in Public Culture, BOMB, and Flash Art, and performed at Participant Inc, New York, and Artspace New Haven. Werder is a 2023–23 PEN America Prison and Justice Writing Program Mentor. She lives in Somerville, Massachusetts with a black cat and hundreds of books.Terry Nguyen is an essayist, poet, and critic from Garden Grove, CA. Her poetry can be found in Iterant, Sarka, No Dear, and other independent publications, and her criticism in the LA and Cleveland Reviews, New York Magazine, and Dirt._﻿________________________________________________________________________________________________________Futurepoem events are supported in part by the National Endowment on the Arts Literary Arts Program, New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature.
