CRUK RADNET: Enabling Research with Complex Technologies Workshop

Following on from the hugely successful CRISPR workshop run at The CRICK in 2022, and taking on board CRUK feedback, the ambitions of the RadNet Unit Directors and the opinions of the RadNet community, we have organised a new workshop for the 17th Nov 2023: ‘Enabling Research with Complex Technologies’. This is an exciting opportunity to expand the CRISPR workshop and encompass other complex technologies including: Expression profiling (spatial transcriptomics, proteomics), complex modelling and computational approaches – all to address a broad range of radiation research questions. The ambition of this new workshop is to democratise access and knowledge for researchers across our network; to support people to undertake collaborative research that may currently be limited to those working at a larger research unit; and to encourage our community to take advantage of the expertise that exists within our network to ‘come and learn’ at designated hubs. Researchers will be given the opportunity to post questions specific to a particular technology ahead of the workshop. These questions will be used to shape multiple breakout sessions, each around a common theme, and initiate relevant, useful discussion. With contributions from specific teams &amp; access to facilities at e.g. CRUK-AZ Functional Genomics Centre it would enable the development of new research ideas, whereby people leave equipped with the knowledge, toolkit and support networks to go forward at their own centres. AudienceThis workshop will be aimed at attracting basic discovery scientists at all levels (PhD, PDRA, research fellow) as well as clinical research fellows working in the field from both RadNet and non-RadNet Centres. This event is aimed at early/mid-career researchers with basic science, translational and/or clinical backgrounds, including allied health professionals.

This presentation will focus on providing an overview of the different platforms available for conducting diverse spatial omics (transcriptome, proteome, phosphorylation and methylation).

This presentation will focus on providing case studies on how CODEX technology is currently being used in cancer research at the CRUK Manchester Institute.

Cancer is a tissue disease. Heterogeneous cancer cells and normal stromal and immune cells form a dynamic ecosystem that evolves to support tumor expansion and ultimately tumor spread. The heterogeneity of this dynamic system is the main obstacle in our attempts to treat and heal the disease. The study of the tumor ecosystem and its cell-to-cell communications is thus essential to enable an understanding of tumor biology, to define new biomarkers to improve patient care, and ultimately to infer for each patient a tailored therapeutic rout. To study and understand the workings of the tumor ecosystem, highly multiplexed image information of tumor tissues is essential. ue imaging, we developed imaging mass cytometry (IMC).

Keynote Speech: "Towards spatial single-cell precision medicine"

This presentation will focus on the spatial transcriptomics methodology and recent data from analysis of patient samples.

This presentation will focus on how to use spatial-omics in combination with other technologies to provide a more detailed look into the immune effects of radiotherapy in the tumour microenvironment.
