About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Join us for Empathy in Action: a Walk in Our Shoes. This is a simulation exercise developed by the SC Office of Rural Health in collaboration with key behavioral health stakeholders across the state.

Walk In Our Shoes is a role-play simulation activity that allows participants to better understand the lives of those living with substance use disorder(s), mental health conditions, and unstable employment, among other concerns, and how they interact with and navigate structures and systems within our community. Participants will play a character in a household and be provided with background information and instructions on different actions they can take in their characters' lives. The goal of this simulation is to create a more supportive and compassionate environment for those who are struggling with addiction and mental health.

We can break down the barriers of stigma and shame and foster a sense of connection and belonging. We can help to lift people up and guide them towards a path of healing and recovery. We can be Empathy in Action.
