Description: Introduction to AIMHiTN new Emergency Response Toolkit: Child Welfare Professional Edition. The toolkit is designed to help child welfare professionals understand the social emotional impact of disasters on families. While also providing early relational techniques for helping caregivers create comprehensive emergency response plans. We will provide guidance on how to utilize the toolkit to work with families on preparing, responding, and recovering from emergency events. This includes natural disasters, but also tools for responding to events such as gun violence or grieving.

Katie Woodard,BS, IMH-E®

Katie joined the AIMHiTN team in January 2022. In 2012, she graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Relations. Before joining AIMHiTN, she worked in various social service settings, promoting health in the community and ensuring that quality child care was available in the Upper Cumberland region.

In January of 2023, she took on the role of Emergency Preparedness Specialist at AIMHiTN. Her interest in emergency response was sparked in March of 2020 when a tornado hit her community in middle Tennessee, particularly Cookeville. This event emphasized to Katie the crucial need to prepare children, educators, and families for emergencies, not just physically but also from a social and emotional standpoint.
