Shannon Downey is an artist, activist, craftivist, community builder, and general instigator. She blends her politics, activism, and art into projects that are designed to inspire others to take action, think, discuss, engage with democracy and their community, and find some digital/analog balance. She makes art to inspire others to make art. Her passion is teaching people how to stab out their frustrations + take action to build a just world. Life motto: Make Art. Smash Systems.

Craft-based activism has been around since the beginning of time and used as a tool of resistance, coalition building, and even espionage! Come learn a brief history of craftivism and how craftivism is being used today, from Shannon Downey aka <a href="https://www.instagram.com/badasscrossstitch/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Badass Cross Stitch</a> - a leader in the modern craftivism movement. She will introduce you to her global project <a href="https://www.badassherstory.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Badass Herstory</a> AND teach you how to embroider in just minutes so that you can join in the fun and the movement. 

Imagine a space full of lovely humans who spend time sharing, talking, reflecting, making, and laughing. A space where folks really get to know each other and engage in productive conversations. Where people are happy to learn something new and share what they already know. A gathering, where at the end of the night, strangers have become friends and friends are planning their next gathering because they enjoyed their experience so much! That is what happens at every. single. stitch-up!
