Embracing our Complexity
Overview
As a photographer, I often hear from clients that they want to see themselves in their photos and know they are enough.
That's what I want for myself, too—to be enough.
But I found myself believing it wasn't possible. The truth is that my self-imposed judgment is based on societal messaging. And although I don't want to, I have accepted those voices as true.
"But what if I created a community of new voices?" I thought.
Maybe.
And, here we are.
If we want to live in a world where we can be enough and feel free to allow others to be enough, then we have to create it. We have to change the cultural narrative. And to do that, we start from within.
That's what the I Am Enough movement [a 10-month course beginning in February] is all about: creating spaces and cultures where it's safe to explore being enough. We do this through creative expression—writing, verbalizing, and a series of three photoshoots.
In preparation for the I Am Enough course, we are hosting this free, one-time event. But you don't need to be registered for [or even planning to participate in] the "I Am Enough" class to come.
In this event, we'll discuss how being "good" as society defines it is the enemy of being "enough," and how goodness can actually be a barrier in our journey to loving ourselves.
This event is for you if you identify as a woman, live in the Minneapolis area, and are 30+.
We'll do some creative writing, discussion, and reflection around our relationship to our own "goodness." It will also be a chance for you to hear more about the "I Am Enough" movement and ask questions if you have them.
