About this event

Join EmbraceRace for a Community of Learning and Practice (COLP) series, "Organizing in Defense of Early Racial Learning in Our Schools and Communities." Conversations will focus on what healthy, developmentally appropriate teaching and learning about race looks like in early and middle childhood and how to come together to promote antibias, antiracist education practices. Topics, reflection questions, and materials will be provided, but the goal of the groups will be to share perspectives and stories, learn from each others' experiences, and make a plan to affect our local communities. This COLP during April - June of 2024 will consist of six (6) 90-min group meetings over a 11-week period.

Our EmbraceRace COLPs are spaces dedicated to supporting caregivers of young children (ages 0-8), individuals who have done meaningful work in their personal racial learning journeys and would benefit from an intimate cohort experience, furthering their activism and knowledge of racial justice.

**(If you are looking for more of a training experience and a space to ask introductory questions, we highly suggest registering for EmbraceRace's "Foundations of Color-Brave Caregiving" program -- Why & How to Talk about Race with Young Kids.)

We hold these trainings in race-based affinity groups in order to provide psychologically safe spaces for folks with similar lived experiences as either racially marginalized or racially privileged to process together. We are committed to providing spaces that center people of color and providing spaces for White folks to educate each other on racial issues, informed by the wealth of labor that people of color have already done to provide resources, information, and guidance.

As part of registration, you will be asked to indicate which group you would like to join. In light of what has been shared above, please pay careful attention to the group options below to determine which group is right for you.

  • Educators of Color: Mondays 9:30 - 11pm EST / 6:30 - 8pm PT, on 4/8, 4/22, 5/6, 5/20, 6/3, and 6/17
  • White Caregivers: Thursdays 8 - 9:30pm EST / 5 - 6:30pm PT, on 4/11, 4/25, 5/9, 5/23, 6/6, and 6/20

The cost of a spot in a group is $100, but to help ensure that cost is not prohibitive, sliding scale payment options range from $50-150. Please choose whichever option feels appropriate based on your current budget. If cost is prohibitive, please reach out to us at earlychildhood@embracerace.org. Please know that registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.

None of the times above work for you, or your preferred group is already full? Don't worry -- we'll offer more in the future. In the meantime, we welcome you to visit our website at www.embracerace.org, check out our many resources, subscribe to our newsletter, follow us on social media, and use our materials in other community conversations.

Not sure if this is a good use of your time? Check out a few comments from past participants:

"Normally evening commitments on a weekday feel like a burden, but these meetings felt energizing. I really appreciated hearing everyone's perspectives and talking through the discussion topics together. It is helpful to have a space to process race-related issues with other white people because, ironically, it helps me leave behind some of the white dominant culture elements like perfectionism."

"[The facilitators] were a great team. We had a perfect mix of content, visuals, small group breakouts, and plenary discussion. The balance of theory and practical applications was impactful."

"The homework tutorials were very informative and engaging. The group was held in a way that kept people focused on the topic and engaged."
