Session 2: Using ELSA data

This session will focus on ELSA data access and use, with presentations on: • Types of data and how to access • Weighting and derived variables • A Q&A session addressing pre-submitted and live questions

14:00 - 15:00

Session 3: Gateway to Global Aging Data

Join Drystan Phillips (University of Southern California) for an overview of the Gateway to Global Aging Data. This presentation will introduce the latest Gateway Harmonized ELSA datasets, including the core, life history, COVID, HCAP, and end-of-life files, and will show how these harmonized versions make ELSA data easier to use and more comparable across time and with international studies. Participants will also learn about the Gateway Policy Explorer, which provides harmonized information on England’s retirement, long-term care, and education policies in a cross-country framework. The session will feature several newly released data resources, including expanded housing variables, contextual pension and education variables in the Harmonized ELSA datasets, and the Harmonized Gateway HCAP data, which incorporates a harmonized dementia classification, enabling richer and more integrated analyses of cognitive aging.
