The call of the gospel is a call into the fellowship of the body of Christ. The fellowship is established by Christ (1 Cor. 1:9), but it is to be perpetuated through those who are bound together by the blood of Christ (1 John 1:7).Elevate is a high school BFG discipleship opportunity established upon the truth that God has designed us with the purpose of being in fellowship with him. By nature of our union with him, we are to be in purposeful fellowship with other like-minded believers encouraging one another to love and good works, preparing the day of his coming (Heb. 10:25).Elevate will focus on intentional fellowship between the Veritas high school BFG students of Ashland. This event will be primarily led by the high school BFG leaders, with additional leaders from Ashland.The prayer for our time together is that we would establish a deep conviction in the hearts of our students of what it means to be a follower of Christ. For 2025, we will be spending a weekend together with the students in Psalm 25, a psalm that expresses the heart of the Gospel, the character of our God, and the path of following him.FAQsWhy "Elevate"?In C.S. Lewis's The Silver Chair, Aslan- a key character representing Christ in many ways- speaks to someone he is about to send on a mission to save many from the deceptive darkness plaguing the world. As he speaks words of hope and words of truth (which he calls "signs"), he speaks on a mountain, high above the earth below, about the mission of salvation about to take place in the world. The mountain becomes a place to remember the signs and words of Aslan.That's what we long for this weekend to be for our high school BFGs- a focused time to remember God's words, specifically to know what this good news means for the great mission God has given us. We hope this retreat will elevate our minds and hearts to see more clearly, not so we can be distant and isolated from the world, but so that we might be equipped and emboldened as we are sent out into the world for God's mission. We also hope and trust that as we go on mission together, Gospel-forged friendships would be a catalyst of courage and bind our high school BFGs together to be leaders in the church and in the world.Each year has a unique theme. This year, we will focus on being Unashamed of the Gospel. Using Psalm 25 as our anchor, we will be reminded that no one who trusts in Him will ever be put to shame. We are unashamed to trust, to rest, and to proclaim the Gospel! What will the retreat include?Worship. Games. Preaching. Food. Fellowship. Discussion.Every part of this event will be planned and executed with intentional focus on the mission. The hope with every activity - games, worship, preaching, eating, devotional time, BFG group time, etc. - is that the students would develop a greater thirst for the living God, a hunger for God's word, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the body of Christ and their role within it.Who can come to the high school BFG retreat?All students who are a part of our Ashland High school BFGs!Where will we be going?We will have our high school BFG retreat at Cedarmore Conference Center at 3083 Cedarmore Rd, Bagdad, KY 40003 (Where we go to Crossings Camp each summer!).What is the cost and when is payment due?The cost is $100 per student. In order for students to reserve their spot, they must register on eventbrite by Feb. 2. Students MUST register on eventbrite in order to secure their spot. Payment will be due a week later on Sunday, Feb. 9. You can pay by check, cash, or online (online fees apply). If paying by check or cash, please give check or cash to Shaun Denney or Thomas Walters. Please make checks payable to AABC. We are required to let the conference center know in advance how many students will be attending our retreat and are ineligible for a refund once we have submitted our numbers.Do students need to bring money for food?All meals are covered as part of the $100 cost! Although not required, students may bring additional money if they would like to purchase a snack from the snack shack.Due to cleaning and allergy purposes, Crossings has made a policy change and required any additional individual snacks brought by students must stay in our group's lodging and must be from the following approved snack list:1. Individual prepackaged chips (Lays, Goldfish, Doritos, etc)2. Individually wrapped candy bars or hard candy (snickers, m&amp;ms, sour patch kids,etc)3. Individual size prepackaged cookies4. Individual prepackaged snack cakes (Little Debbie’s, Hostess, etc)5. Individual prepackaged breakfast or granola bars6. Bottled water or uncarbonated sports drinks (Gatorade, Powerade, etc) What does the Campus look like at Cedarmore? Ashland students and leaders will be staying at Cedarview and Fields Cabins. Featuring dorm-style housing, each side of the cabin has multi-stall bathrooms. We will be leaving early on Sunday morning in order to be back by 10 AM for Sunday morning worship!Who will be the leaders for the weekend?We will have Ashland chaperones attending the event and staying overnight with our students. Current chaperones include Mollie Cole, Kelly Hogue, Anca Martin, Adam York, Shaun Denney, Spencer Austin, and Paul Barth! We will post a finalized leader list closer to the retreat!
