Currituck County 4-H is hosting a field trip to Surry Va to the Nuclear Power Plant on August 1, 2024 for youth ages 10 and up.

Participants will meet at the NC Cooperative Extension , Currituck Center office located at 120 Community Way in Barco at 8:00am and travel to Surry VA. This will be a fun filled day all about Energy! Youth will visit Dominion Energy’s Surry Nuclear Power Station and learn how the station works, see models of a nuclear reactor and containment structure, and the nuclear energy path; from uranium mining to electricity production. At the interactive learning center they will participate in several activities that show the many ways that energy is generated to produce electricity.

Our return trip includes a stop at the Bowlero Chesapeake Bowling Alley where we bowl a few games while identifying all the types of energy necessary to roll a bowling ball down the alley to hit the pins. Youth will need to bring or make sure they wear socks for that part of the field trip. Participants will also need to bring a bag lunch.

Space is limited and registration deadline is July 25, 2024. There is a $12.00 registration fee. This may be paid online through eventbrite or you may pay with cash or check. Cash and check payments need to be received within five days of your registration. If you are paying by check please make it payable to NCSU, and mail it to NCCE 120 Community Way Barco NC 27917. All participants must also be enrolled in 4-H Online for the 2024 program year; the link to that portion of the registration process is https://v2.4honline.com .
