El Péndulo

About the Performance:
El Péndulo (The Pendulum) transports the audience through an immersive experience featuring improvisational dance, inspired by the image of the oscillating pendulum as the driving force. Throughout this interactive piece, dancers explore an array of movement ideas from a relational perspective, shifting between instances of connection and disconnection. While the dancers swing, suspend, sway, and vacillate, we invite the audience to stand or walk during the performance, observing the piece from varied perspectives. They are encouraged to get close to the performers, appreciate details, connect with the dancers, and become integral parts of the experience. This project stems from an idea that has become increasingly relevant in our current political climate. Historically, the ‘pendulum’ has swung incessantly from one dominant political perspective to the opposite. We look at the pendulum's opposite ends as reflecting our cultural perspectives, ranging from collectivism to individualism.

About the Lead Artist:
Carmen Caceres is a dance artist originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. With DanceAction, a fiscally sponsored dance company based in NY, she has presented dance works in several renowned venues, including The Mark Morris Dance Center, The Center at West Park, and the Center for Performance Research. As a performer, she collaborated with artists Lisa Parra, Sarah Berges, and Elia Mrak, among others. Carmen received an MA in Dance Education at Hunter College and has deepened her studies in dance at the former Merce Cunningham Studio.
