El Bolero de Rubén es una tragedia a ritmo de boleros donde Marta, tras quince años de esperar que su novio salga de la cárcel es consumida por las paredes de su casa a medio terminar, al mismo tiempo que su extinto sueño de ser cantante la lleva por pasajes imaginarios que reflejan su frustración su rabia y su miedo.


El Bolero de Rubén navega entre el Thriller, el musical, el realismo y la comedia, convirtiéndola en una película única en su género.


Ruben’s Bolero is the story of Marta’s tragedy, which is told in the rhythm of boleros. After fifteen years of waiting for her boyfriend to get out of prison, she is consumed by the walls of her half-finished house, and she lost dream of being a singer, taking her through imaginary passages that reflect her frustration, anger, and fear.


Ruben’s Bolero navigates between thriller, musical, realism, and comedy, making it a unique film.

For many years the film industry in Colombia has often lacked the resources to produce national cinema. Among several setbacks, was the absence of a national audience who demanded Hollywood films. In recent years, Colombia has expanded its resources to support filmmakers throughout the country, since then the number of productions has increased dramatically. Juan Carvajal founded the Colombian Film Festival of New York in 2012. He noticed the small presence of Colombian cinema while visiting New York City. Determined to unify the existing diaspora of the country & new york community he set a goal to create a festival dedicated to the exhibition of Colombia’s roots and talent. Let’s discover and rediscover our story through film!
