About this event

ʻEKE KUA is an early childhood education program that services keiki (birth to 5) and their makua (adult ie: parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle…). This is a Hawaiian culture through literacy program that focuses on experiential ʻāina-based learning steeped in cultural values and practices of our kūpuna. Through the ʻEKE KUA program, participants will be immersed in the moʻolelo and daily practices of our ancestors through hands-on experiences rooted in the native and Polynesian introduced plants that flourish within the ʻili ʻāina of Waipao. Keiki and makua will learn and grow together during this 4 week cohort to build a basic foundation of culture, moʻolelo, language, and practices through the exploration of ʻāina, environment and the natural elements that surround us. Books, written for children, that share both traditional and modern moʻolelo of people, places and things of our ʻāina, will be shared with keiki and makua. Each puke that is read will be enriched with a culturally based experience that connects to the moʻolelo shared.

ʻEKE KUA will be held on Fridays for the month of May. This session will be a total of 4 days which include 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, and 5/31/2024 from 9:00-11:00am.

Incomplete registrations will be omitted and you will have to re-register. The maximum in an ʻohana is 2 mākua & 3 keiki. Cost of registration for each keiki is $50 (plus processing fee).
