EEW Open Hour: What's Not Talked About Enough?
Event Information
About this event
Networking and Discussion
On Thursday, June 17th from 6pm - 7pm EDT, we are hosting a public Open Hour for individuals and organizations championing for environmental justice to bring their experiences and insights into a conversation about environmental data issues that we "don't talk about enough."
The meaning of environmental data is broad, encompassing any type of information that activists create or access in order to move social and environmental change forward. Data might refer to measurements of contaminants by communities or regulatory agencies as well as reports and speeches delivered by community members.
Many environmental data-related issues came up during our event about Environmental Data Accessibility for Spanish-Speaking Communities. Speakers touched on topics such as access to information for Spanish-speakers, local enforcement of environmental issues and zoning regulations, industry self-reporting to EPA, and censorship of community voices.
We would like to continue these conversations and learn about more struggles that people face and may go unheard.
This open hour will be in an “unconference” format and facilitate networking between groups. We will have a short breakout session to generate themes and questions then a longer session to delve into 1-2 topics of your choice with other attendees. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at environmentalenforcementwatch@gmail.com. We encourage this to be a collaborative event.
One goal of the Open Hour format is to foster connections across groups and individuals that may be encountering similar challenges, so our one-hour format leaves lots of space for collaboration.
