A dance that come from your body without any steps or moves
Dance Your Shadow
A dance that comes from your body, without any steps or moves.
We’re gathering on Nov 21st for a day to explore ourselves, our dance, and our being with fresh eyes. If you’ve been on the fence about joining, this day is for you. We’ll bring the workshop right back to the foundation of conscious dance and explore the energy and patterns that live in us, including the parts we usually keep in the dim light of the shadow.
First-timers: You are deeply welcome here. This workshop is perfect for beginners. There’s nothing you need to know and no experience required, just a willingness to move and be moved.
Experienced dancers: This is your invitation to return to beginner’s mind and share, play and be present.
The beauty of this practice is that we all arrive as equals on the dance floor. Your body, right now, exactly as it is, is your teacher.
And here’s the real talk: it’s normal to feel uncomfortable. That’s exactly why we do this work, to move through our patterns, not avoid them. Showing up is often the hardest part. Dancing vulnerably, moving like nobody’s watching when everyone can see you, is challenging. But we trust that we can welcome ourselves and each other into a non-judgmental space. You can move as your body allows: sit, stand, crawl, move as you and your body need.
Before You Arrive: Go Ahead And Witness Yourself
Take a note in your day to day, to watch yourself. Maybe ask yourself the following: "When can I participate as an observer to witness my point of view? How do I become present in my body and mind? When do I loose track of my body? When do I loose my mind? What shifts back and forth allowing me to fully be aware or just be "in the moment" following patterns? Where are my patterns and habits?"
THIS WILL BE THE EXPLORATION OF THE WORKSHOP!
Name your light and your shadow. What lights you up? What do you hide, hold back, or push down? .It could be a single word, a phrase, or a whole mess of them: too much, not enough, the clenched jaw, the one who says yes when I mean no, the quiet, the loud, laughter, softness, fire. Let it spill out as word salad. We’d love to see what emerges.
ART PROMPT TO CO CREATE! Put it on paper, in black and white. Write your words, or tear and paste them, onto a piece of paper about the size of a cue card. Bring it with you on Nov 21.
About Ecstatic & Conscious Dance
Ecstatic and conscious dance invite us to explore ourselves through movement: who we are, how we show up, what energy moves through us. There are no steps to learn and no “right way” to move. This isn’t performance, it’s practice. Whether you’re seeking meditation in motion, a full-body workout, or freedom from habitual patterns, you create this dance to be fully yours in whatever way you show up.
I encourage you to join for the complete journey, beginning, middle, and end. There’s a reason we move through the day in sequence. It’s the container that allows for real transformation.
