Join Maria Finn, author of the cookbook, Forage. Gather. Feast. and founder of The Institute for Ecosystem Based Living, and Lydia Wendt, founder of California Cloth Foundry, for a discussion on ways we can hack our daily habits in food and fashion to live in more alignment with the natural world.
From keystone species like salmon and oysters to the fantastic world of mushrooms and their mycelial networks, to super carbon sequesters like seaweed, these creatures, fungi and algae are vital parts of their ecosystems. They are also delicious. There are so many ways we can support wild foods, and emerging systems of regenerative foods with small, everyday changes that will also benefit our own health and happiness.
While sustainability in food has received a lot of attention, sustainable clothing is an emerging field. Mass produced, “fast fashion” is considered an environmental disaster and the second most polluting industry after oil. There’s a huge amount of waste of cheap clothing that often ends up in landfills – where the chemicals used for dying leach into groundwater. But fashion can be sustainable – from the farming and ranching of cotton and wool to natural dyes, and compostable fabrics. There are many simple ways to make your fashion choices better for the planet and for your body.
Regenerative wool and cotton samples from Lydia’s collection will be displayed and there will be bites from Maria’s cookbook, Forage. Gather. Feast. Maria will be available to sign books after the presentation.

Maria Finn is an author and chef and founder of Flora & Fungi Adventures, The Institute for Ecosystem Based Living and author of the newly published cookbook, Forage. Gather. Feast. The theme that runs through them all her endeavors is how nature can teach us to become a keystone species on planet earth.
Lydia Wendt is founder of California Cloth Foundry. Their collection produces clothing, from seed to assembly, within a few hundred miles of its headquarters. Their fabrics made from regeneratively grown materials use eggshells instead of heavy metals, natural enzymes instead of Formaldehyde, and dyes made from madder root, weld, and chestnut instead of petroleum derivatives.
