About this event

Over a two-year span we rehabilitated the Cherokee Brewery Company Stockhouse. the only remaining building of the Cherokee Brewery Company complex, which was active from 1866 until 1902. Renovations included removal of a plywood acade and 30 ton plaster-and-lathe drop ceiling, the conversion of a 20-foot deep basement into a production facility, the removal of 1.2 million pounds of clay, dirt and other fill from historic lagering cellars, the reconstruction of doors and transoms from reference photographs taken in the 1870s and extensive landscape and interior improvements.

This tour covers the gorgeous taproom, the beer-garden, our pilot brewhouse and production floor, the history of the brewery complex, the basics of beer-making and the extensive underground conditioning and lagering cellars that were integral to traditional German-style beermaking in the nineteenth century.

Tours are conducted by one of our experienced and highly intelligent staff members (or by Stuart, the owner) and start promptly on the hour.  Tours typically last 30 to 40 minutes and include a complimentary beer at the end of the tour.  There are many flights of stairs to navigate and portions of the tour take you through active production facilities and over uneven terrain.  We know your toes are cute but we ask you wear environmentally-appropriate footwear. We look forward to hosting you on the most interesting brewery tour on Cherokee Street (west of Jefferson Ave)!
