Durham’s MED Week is a week-long series of educational, outreach and recognition events that commemorates the achievements of minority entrepreneurs and affirms government, business and community organizations' commitment to the principle of equal opportunity.

Monday, October 7, 5 pm - 7 pm:
The State of Durham's Economy: Challenges & Opportunities
Cost: Free, but registration requested
Location: Self Help Building, 302 W. Main St.
Everyone is talking about Durham’s “booming economy,” but what are the top areas of growth and where are the greatest opportunities for business? Could there be a downside? Hear an analysis of the local economy by Director Andre Pettigrew with the City of Durham’s Office of Workforce and Economic Development ,and participate in a discussion of where potential business opportunities may exist. Take advantage of networking while enjoying refreshments.
Tuesday, October 8, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm:
MED Week Honors Luncheon
Cost: $30 per person & registration required
Location: Durham Hilton Near Duke University, 3800 Hillsborough Rd.
Keynote Speaker: Maggie Anderson, CEO & Founder, Empowerment Experiment Foundation
The highlight of this celebratory event will be the recognition of minority and women businesses for their excellence and accomplishments in construction, professional services and non-professional services. The keynote speaker for the occasion is Maggie Anderson, CEO and founder of the Empowerment Experiment Foundation and author of “Our Black Year.” She will share her thoughts on what it will take to achieve success for all minority business owners as she weaves in lessons learned from her real-life case study in self-help economics. There will be time to meet Maggie and obtain a copy of her book.

Business Financial Literacy

Are you a new business owner who is searching for money to get started? Sponsored by the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, a panel of presenters will discuss access to capital for minority-owned, small business start-ups. The panelists are Doug Speight (AnnexTech), Nish Evans (Lennox Grae) and Michael Johnson (Intelligent Office).

MED Week Business Fair
