***FAMILY FRIENDLY***

Volunteer numbers for this project are based on adults and children ages 11 and older. Younger children are encouraged to attend with their parents but registration is NOT needed for any child 10 and under.

What sort of work will I be doing?

LANDSCAPING:

- Clean debris & trash out of beds and weed them

- Mulch front beds and central courtyard first, then mulch additional beds/trees with remaining mulch.

- Add colorful perennials and annuals to front entryway beds and courtyard area.

- Add topsoil and plant colorful annuals in existing wooden planters.

- Enhance entryway sign by planting sun perennials and staining existing railroad tie planter.

SKILLED Gardener:

- Help direct weeding, mulching, and planting. Answer any specific gardening questions that come up.

***DuPage PADS purchased the former Red Roof Inn in Downers Grove, which houses over 300 homeless individuals and family members.


VOLUNTEERS SHOULD BRING (If you are able):

  • WATER to drink
  • Gardening Gloves
  • Disposable Gloves (for staining railroad tie planter)
  • Wheelbarrows (6 needed)
  • Rakes (10 needed)
  • Shovels / Pitchforks (8 needed for mulch)
  • Trowels
  • Shears
  • Loppers
  • Putty Knife (for scraping old stain off front sign railroad ties)

Optional:

  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug Spray

El número de voluntarios para este proyecto se basa en adultos y niños mayores de 11 años. Se anima a los niños más pequeños a que asistan con sus padres, pero el registro NO ES NECESARIO para cualquier niño menores de 10 años.
