About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Examaine the facts behind one of Britain's greatest war stories, with local academic Alan Denny.

The evacuation of Dunkirk between 26 May and 4 June 1940, where small boats from Britain bravely crossed the channel to rescue their soldeirs in France. A triumph eulogised in books and film, and an event very special in Southend's own history.. so why have some historians portrayed it as a disaster? How did Germany view the events? Was it simply fake news and wartime propaganda? What is the truth? Examine the evidence and come to your own conclusions!
