Dub, or dub reggae, is a music genre that originated in 1960's Jamaica. Producers such as Lee "Scratch" Perry and King Tubby cut "dub plates" of popular reggae songs, trimming down vocals and layering ample echo and reverb. The tradition continues today, from classic dub to dub techno and beyond.
