Dry Stone Walling Experience
Come and join our dry stone walling volunteer group.
Dry stone walls are an integral part of our countryside’s heritage and provide important habitats for a range of wildlife. They can last for centuries, and the stones used to construct them can be recycled indefinitely.
Join this event to learn an ancient craft from trained instructors. This volunteering experience will give you a basic understanding of dry stone walling techniques and hands on experience. As well as giving you an appreciation for the importance of dry stone walls in our landscapes.
Set in the beautiful countryside of Denton you’ll be surrounded by nature and the wild!
Parking:
Please park at: Home Farm, Denton Hall, Denton, LS29 0HF
'What Three Words' for the parking at Home Farm is:
/// porch.goggles.botanists
Directions: Turn north off the valley road, up the hill, towards Denton village. Before T-junction, turn right through the black gates into the lower entrance to Home Farm. Over 2 cattle grids into the farmyard, turn left, up hill. Then turn right, on the level and park in front of wall at the top.
What to bring/wear:
You can never predict the Yorkshire weather! We recommend bringing layers, suncream, hats and a raincoat.
Steel toe capped shoes are recommended for stone walling but not essential. However, sturdy footwear is required for traversing uneven ground.
If you have work gloves please also bring these along but we have plenty if not! We will also provide eye protection.
Any tools or equipment that you need will be provided.
You will also need a packed lunch and snacks. We provide tea and coffee and cake/biscuits.
Toilets:
There are toilets available to use at the meeting point but there will not be any available on site.
