Drop Spindling - You Can Do It! Instructor: Kim Specht Date: Friday 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Max: 12 Min Age: 14 Class Fee: $45 Materials fee payable to instructor: $15
It’s relaxing, it’s portable, it's inexpensive, and it spun the world’s threads for thousands of years: the infamous drop spindle. Spindling is a great way to learn the mechanics of spinning, to learn how to handle fiber, and to experiment with new fibers. Spindlers have great control of drafting and the insertion of twist. While students practice, we will talk about fiber preparation and the history and variety of spindles. Kim will demonstrate on top and bottom whorl suspended spindles as well as supported spindles. Several plying techniques will be discussed and demonstrated
Kim will have top whorl suspended spindles for use in class. Students should bring any spindles they own and would like to know more about.
